PCB before etched, but already drilled and drawn the layout. Used a water proof type of pen marker. I drawn the layout with hand, so the line may be too thick or not a very stright line. The size about 12.5 cm X 7.5 cm.
Ferrichloride (FeCl3) powder used, about 3 to 4 cc to etch the board. I do not prepare a special case for this purpose. I usually use generally plastic bag case, so it is easy to throw away after used. Don't used a metal case for this purpose.
After mixed it with water, about 1:3, like black coffee mix with milk (or strong tea). Don't mix it to much or the covered layout also will be etched, and also don't mix it to little, so the etching time will take too long.
PCB is still etching, the good etching time is about 5 to 10 minutes. If the liquid too heavy the layout will be etched also, and if the liquid too light the copper clad very hard to etched. Shake it gently.
PCB after etching, the copper clad which not covered by ink marker was removed. The covered part left. If the marker not too good, the layout also eroded a little too. Some area still not etched well.
PCB already done, the ink marker was removed using alcohol (70%). You can also use another kinds of liquid like benzene or thinner. But alcohol is more suitable, it does not smell and also easy to wash with water. Another kinds left the smell.
PCB was seeing from top view (it was a single side type). It was clearly show the copper layout. After that you could test the PCB using tester or a bell check to test the continuity of the layout. PCB ready to used.
PCB after all the components were put. You can add some text explain the components or its values using the same pen marker. Now its ready to test.
